American Songbird Elise Roth specialises in bringing to life lesser-known tunes of Tin Pan Alley and the Great American Songbook, as well as enduring favourites from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Along with some of the best pianists in the London early jazz scene, her expressive vocals and sharp sense of humour will guarantee a swell evening of song!

So that is Thursday Throwdown exactly? Each Thursday after 11pm, we’re switching it up at Nightjar. Firstly there will be a free, late set of live music from 11.30 pm. But, better than that, thanks to Don Julio, we’re going to drink like it’s 2010! Our special late-night menu is a nod to the days (and prices!) of when Nightjar first opened, fifteen years ago.

The London-based vocalist Louise Balkwill has been making waves on the European jazz scene, captivating listeners with her charismatic, blues-infused, honest and virtuosic-yet-unpretentious take on vocal jazz.  

Balkwill’s admirers include the likes of Leroy Jones (trumpeter to Harry Connick Jr., with whom she released the single “Sweeter Than A Summer Breeze” in May 2023 featuring her own lyrics on Jones’ melody), alongside jazz cream cream of the crop Deedee Bridgewater, Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw, Claire Martin and the late Dr. John.
